Guiuan, Eastern Samar hits ‘extreme danger’ heat index for 2nd day

MANILA, Philippines—Guiuan, Eastern Samar may experience a 50-degree Celsius heat index on Tuesday, the state weather bureau said.

According to the latest heat index forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Tuesday, Guiuan is one of the 45 areas throughout the country that may experience dangerous heat levels.

Pagasa’s classification system considers a heat index dangerous once it reaches 42 degrees Celsius to 51 degrees Celsius.

Pagasa likewise cautioned people to observe healthy habits such as drinking plenty of water, staying in areas with shade during hot periods, and wearing heat-protective clothing to prevent heat-related illnesses.
