3 van passengers dead, 8 hurt in Quezon road mishap

LUCENA CITY – Three van passengers died and eight others were injured on Sunday morning, June 2, in an accident involving two vehicles along the Maharlika Highway in Tiaong town in Quezon province.

A spot report from Region 4A police said that a Bicol-bound Toyota van driven by Emgee Compuesto “made a sudden overtake” to a Mitsubishi Xpander driven by Francus Ramos in a section of the highway in Barangay (village) Talisay at around 3:30 a.m.

However, due to a miscalculation, the van side swept the left side of the Xpander. The wayward van consequently collided with an oncoming Manila-bound Bicol Isarog bus driven by Anthony Nazareno.

The report said three of the van passengers – Leo Montecalbo, 9; Angelou Palacio, 17; and Guillermo Catamco Jr. died in the accident. The report did not specify if the fatalities died on the spot.

Aside from Compuesto, the police identified the other injured van passengers as Nasser Lominog, Lenie Dizon, Sandy Flores, Jean Cabacus, Rex Cañete, Eric Atienza, and Roshan Pelayo. The injured motorists were all confined in a local hospital.

All van passengers were listed as residents of Masbate City.

The police are conducting further investigation.
