LIST: 46 areas may experience ‘dangerous’ heat index on June 2

MANILA, Philippines — Aparri in Cagayan is expected to reach the highest heat index on Sunday at 48 degrees Celsius (°C), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa’s forecast revealed that four areas may also experience extreme heat and hit the second highest heat index at 46°C — ISU Echague in Isabela, Tacloban City in Leyte, Zamboanga City in Zamboanga del Sur, and Butuan City in Agusan del Norte.

Besides the said four locations, Pagasa said that 41 other areas may reach a heat index of 42 to 51°C, which falls under the “danger” category, a level that would likely cause heat cramps and exhaustion, while heat stroke is probable with continued heat or sun exposure.
