MANILA, Philippines — Three fisherfolk were still missing after waves swept their boat due to Typhoon Aghon (international name: Ewiniar) in Quezon province’s Burdeos town a few days ago, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Thursday.

According to the PCG, MBCA Mike Denmark was reported missing after being anchored and secured at the sheltering area in Barangay Calutcot on Monday (May 27).

“According to local residents in the area, the motorbanca was boarded by three persons, including its caretaker,” the PCG said in a statement.

Before the boat went missing, the residents said, “caretaker reportedly went onboard Motorbanca Mike Denmark 3 to inspect its condition during the onslaught of Typhoon Aghon.”

Search and rescue efforts are now ongoing to locate the missing fisherfolk.

On Sunday, May 26, Aghon made landfall in Burdeos town, according to the state weather bureau.

Quezon was still under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 when the boat went missing.
