Marcos leaves for 2-day state visit to Brunei

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has departed from the Philippines and is headed to Brunei for a state visit.

The President departed from Villamor Airbase in Pasay City on Tuesday morning after addressing several of his cabinet secretaries.

In Brunei, Marcos is set to meet with Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, and he will also have a meeting with the Filipino community in the country. The President will also meet with local business leaders.

“The president will be traveling to Brunei on 28 to 29 May to undertake his first state visit to the Sultanate. While in Brunei, the president will be meeting with His Majesty, the Sultan, who is also Sultan Head of State of Brunei Darussalam,” said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesperson Teresita Daza in a previous press briefing.

According to the DFA, there are 25,000 Filipinos in the country.

After his two-day trip to Brunei, Marcos will head to Singapore to address the Institute for Strategic Studies Shangri-La Dialogue 2024.

Brunei and Singapore will mark Marcos’ eighth and ninth countries to visit this year.
