2 hurt when tree falls on tricycle due to heavy rains in Legazpi City
LEGAZPI CITY — A tricycle driver and a boy were injured Saturday after a tree fell on their vehicle in Barangay Homapon in this city.
The continuous rains brought by Tropical Depression Aghon uprooted the acacia tree that subsequently hit the tricycle around 10 a.m., leaving Fredel Bercilla, 30, the driver, and a 12-year-old boy, all residents of Barangay Imalnod in this city, wounded.
Beberlyn Bitancur, Imanod village chief, said in a private message that the driver was in critical condition while his nephew was unconscious. The victims were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Bitancur said the two other passengers, also minors, were unharmed.
Since Friday morning, May 24, Albay province has been experiencing moderate to heavy rains spawned by Aghon.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Southern Luzon earlier raised the “orange” rainfall warning in Albay and Sorsogon, which was expected to cause flooding and landslides in high-risk areas.
