Pagasa says heavy rain over parts of Quezon to prevail Thursday night

MANILA, Philippines — Moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds currently being experienced in Quezon Province may persist until evening, the state weather bureau said on Thursday.

In a thunderstorm advisory issued at 5:30 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the unfavorable weather conditions in the municipalities of Quezon, Lopez, and Gumaca “within 2 hours and may affect nearby areas.”

“All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards, which include flash floods and landslides,” it added.

In an afternoon forecast, Pagasa also said that overcast skies with rain showers and thunderstorms would prevail over Eastern Visayas and Caraga due to the low-pressure area (LPA).

The LPA was seen 680 kilometers east of Davao City as of 3 p.m.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, will have slightly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms brought by easterlies.

Pagasa warned the public against possible flash floods and landslides in low-lying areas.
