Senate shuffles committee chairmanship posts after leadership change

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate on Wednesday rearranged its committees, replacing several chairpersons following the seismic shakeup that ousted Juan Miguel Zubiri from his Senate leadership.

The updated committee chairmanships were announced by newly-installed Majority Leader Francis Tolentino during the chamber’s Wednesday plenary session.

Below is a list of updated panel chairs:

Economic Affairs

• Chairperson: Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri (replacing Sen. Mark Villar)

Government Corporations and Public Enterprises

• Chairperson: Sen. Mark Villar (replacing Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano)

Trade and Industry

Chairperson: Sen.  Alan Peter Cayetano (replacing Mark Villar)

Energy

• Chairperson: Sen. Pia Cayetano (replacing Raffy Tulfo)

Finance

• Chairperson: Sen. Grace Poe (replacing Sonny Angara)

Higher, Technical and Vocational Education

• Chairperson: Alan Peter Cayetano (replacing Francis “Chiz” Escudero)

Justice and Human Rights

• Chairperson: Sen. Sonny Angara (replacing Francis Tolentino)

Sustainable Development Goals

• Chairperson: Sen. Nancy Binay (from Sen. Pia Cayetano)

Local Government

• Chairperson: Sen. JV Ejercito (reelected)

Labor

• Chairperson: Sen. Joel Villanueva (replacing Sen. Jinggoy Estrada)

Public Services

• Chairperson: Sen. Raffy Tulfo (replacing Grace Poe)
