Pagasa: NCR, 39 other areas seen to have ‘dangerous’ heat index level

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and 39 other areas in the country will experience dangerous heat index levels on Thursday, the state weather bureau said.

According to the heat index forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Wednesday, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Pasay City may record a heat index of 42 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the expected heat index in Pagasa’s Science Garden in Quezon City was marked at 41 degrees Celsius, classified in the “extreme caution” category.

Listed below are the 39 other areas that will have heat indices of 42 degrees Celsius and above:

According to the Pagasa, a heat index of 42 to 51 degrees Celsius is “dangerous” and can result in various adverse health effects, such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

It also advised people to follow health safety reminders such as drinking plenty of water, not staying in hot areas, and wearing heat-protective clothing.
