DepEd: Don’t spread ‘unconfirmed’ story on Iloilo student’s death

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has urged the public not to spread “unconfirmed narratives” about the death of a Grade 10 student in Maasin, Iloilo.
DepEd appealed for respect to the bereaved family.
On Sunday, the education department confirmed the death of the Grade 10 student on May 10.
Bombo Radyo Iloilo earlier reported that the Grade 10 student was found lifeless after getting a failing grade in one subject.
However, DepEd asked the public in a statement: “While we wait for the official police report and findings, we appeal to the public to refrain from spreading unconfirmed narratives as a sign of respect for the family in this time of grief.”

Article continues after this advertisementDepEd said the school’s Child Protection Committee will conduct psychosocial interventions for affected peers and teachers close to the Grade 10 learner.
The school will also coordinate with appropriate authorities regarding the student’s death.
