MANILA, Philippines — Aparri in Cagayan experienced the highest index on Sunday at 49°C, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
This is followed by Roxas City in Capiz at 47°C and two areas under 46°C namely, Laoag City in Ilocos Norte and Dagupan City in Pangasinan, based on the state weather bureau’s 5 p.m. report.

A total of 34 areas, including the four mentioned, hit a heat index of 42 to 51°C, which falls under the “danger” category. Pagasa said this level would likely cause heat cramps and exhaustion, while heat stroke is probable with continued heat or sun exposure.
On the other hand, three areas — Tuguegarao City in Cagayan; Iloilo City in Iloilo; and Guiuan in Eastern Samar — reached 45°C.
Meanwhile, nine areas also experienced extreme heat at 44°C. These are as follows:
- Science Garden, Quezon City
- Bacnotan, La Union
- Baler, Aurora
- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
- Cuyo, Palawan
- Virac, Catanduanes
- Catarman, Northern Samar
- Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur
- Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte
Below are other areas that hit 43 to 42°C:
