MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) awarded P1.92 million to informants who helped authorities arrest 11 of the country’s most wanted criminals.

PNP handed over the cash reward to the informants during a ceremony at the Intelligence Training Group building in Camp Crame, Quezon City, on Thursday.

According to the PNP, the informants wore masks upon receiving the reward to protect their identities.

“[They] provided vital information leading to the capture of fugitives involved in serious crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, and carnapping,” police said in a statement.

For his part, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said that granting monetary rewards to these informants is one of their programs to encourage community participation in fighting criminal activities.
