MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos have nothing to gain from the alleged destabilization plot against the Marcos administration as claimed by former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, several members of the House of Representatives said on Wednesday.
1-Rider party-list Rep. Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez explained that there is a possibility that attempts to sow discord may be coming from outside the country – or something international
“Perhaps we should look into the question of destabilization plots beyond the personalities and more on what these personalities stand for?We have to understand, we have to remember that there are interests in this country that may originate from outside,” Gutierrez said.
“So, when the question is asked, who will benefit from this destab plot? All I can say is, they are not Filipinos,” he added.
Deputy Speaker David Suarez gave the same sentiments, saying that any destabilization plot would not be in the interests of Filipinos — or even political parties.
“I think in the grand scheme of things, nobody would benefit here, because this would be bad for the Filipino people.We want our president to succeed, because we want the country to succeed too, we want Filipino lives to improve,” he said.
“Now, these things that they (critics) do — defaming people, diverting issues, insinuating whatever accusations there are, do not help the country.That’s why my advice is since you (destabilizers) will not succeed, let’s allow the administration to work, let’s allow the administration to succeed, if we love our country let’s work for the Filipino people,” he added.
Trillanes said in a briefing on Tuesday that active senior Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel and retired Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officials have been recruiting officers since 2023, supposedly in a bid to oust Marcos and install Vice President Sara Duterte as president.
On Tuesday, Zambales 1st District Rep. Jefferson Khonghun urged Trillanes to keep the AFP and PNP away from such talks.
Some lawmakers, however, are now wondering if there is a semblance of truth to the former senator’s claims — asking why the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs continues to believe in fake documents implicating Marcos for drug use.
The said panel is headed by Senator Ronald dela Rosa, a former PNP chief and a known ally of the Dutertes.
On Tuesday, dela Rosa denied Trillanes’ insinuations that he is following former president Rodrigo Duterte’s directions, saying that he will not allow himself to be used by anyone.
