ALA boxing Promotions said their ward Marjohn Yap lost to South African Miniyakhe Sityatha last May 12 at the Orient Theatre in East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Though the official decision was not announced clearly, ALA Promotions said in an e-mail that Yap lost by points against Siyatha after 10 rounds.
“We know that Yap is a good boxer. Maybe he just didn’t meet our expectation. As for now, we can’t contact them but we are already informed that he lost on points,” said ALA Boxing Promotions president Michael Aldeguer. Aldeguer also mentioned that Yap would return to Cebu later this week.
With the win, the 21-year-old Sithyatha improved his record to 14-2 (win-loss) with seven knockouts. Yap dropped to 16-8 with nine knockouts.
Yap won over fellow Filipino Paul Apolinario last December in Iligan City via a third-round technical knockout.
Sithyatha has a good boxing background after he won the Eastern Cape junior bantamweight title last 2010 and won the South African junior bantamweight title by knocking out Unathi Gqokoma in the tenth round. He defended his title twice before beating Yap. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
