SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Some parts of Zambales have been placed under dangerous levels of heat index.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the heat index in the capital town of Iba was forecast to reach 43 ºÇ on Thursday, April 25.
Iba is among the 36 areas in the country to experience a dangerous heat index on Thursday, with Cavite City topping the list at 47 °C.
The Zambales towns of Subic and San Marcelino had also begun experiencing a dangerous heat index early this week.
The heat index is the degree of discomfort experienced by a person as a result of the effects of temperature and air humidity.
Pagasa categorizes a heat index from 42°C to 51°C as dangerous.
Residents in areas experiencing a high temperature should avoid or minimize prolonged exposure to the sun to prevent suffering from heat-related ailments, local health officials said.
