MANILA, Philippines — Taguig City on Wednesday honored and awarded three centenarian residents with a P100,000 cash gift.
Mayor Lani Cayetano said the the three centenarians are 102-year-old Patria Entraja of Barangay West Rembo; Carmen Borja, also 102, from Barangay Ususan and Severa Decasa, 100.
“Nakatanggap po sila ng 100,000 cash gift mula sa ating pamahalaan (they received P100,000 cash gifts each from the government),” said Cayetano in a Facebook post.
“Ito po ay bilang pasasalamat at daan upang maiparamdam ang walang sawang pagmamahal natin sa mga sentenaryong Taguigueño (this is to thank and express our endless love to the centenarians),” she added.
According to Cayetano, the Taguig government provides an annual birthday cash gift of P100,000 to centenarians for the rest of their lives.
This, she said, was made possible by City Ordinance No. 25 of 2017.
A law granting P10,000 to Filipinos who reach the age of 80, 85, 90, and 95 was also recently signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The benefits, however, will be handed out starting 2025.
