MANILA, Philippines — A fire broke out in a residential neighborhood in Caloocan City on Monday, injuring eight people and leaving a still undetermined number of houses damaged or destroyed.

The blaze broke out at 12:45 p.m. on Marcela Street in Barangay 27, according to the Caloocan City fire department.

It reached the first alarm at 12:47 p.m. followed by the second alarm an hour later as the fire grew.

Burns and lacerations

Eight people between 18 and 60 years old were injured, including two fire volunteers who found it hard to breathe, the Bureau of Fire Protection said.

The injuries included burns and lacerations.

The fire was finally put out at 2:33 p.m. with 10 firetrucks responding to the call for help.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, along with the estimated damage to property. —RUSSEL LORETO
