MANILA, Philippines — The clamping of motorcycle vehicles in the city of Manila is temporarily suspended, its local government said.

In a memorandum signed by Manila Barangay Bureau Officer-in-Charge Diosdado Santiago on Tuesday and published by the city’s public information office on Wednesday, this was “in response to public concerns.”

“Please be informed that the implementation of City Ordinance 8998, amending City Ordinance 8109, which includes motorcycles among the type of vehicles that are subject for clamping, has been held in abeyance by the Hon. Mayor Maria Sheilah ‘Honey’ H. Lacuna-Pangan,” the memorandum read.

The document also told barangay officials to advise their constituents to follow parking regulations.

“Further, all Barangays are hereby directed to maintain order in their Barangays by advising their constituents to park their vehicles on designated parking lots only,” it added.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post by Lacuna, she explained that the previous order was suspended due to complaints that it was not being properly implemented.

“Aking pinatigil ang pagpapatupad ng nasabing ordinansa sa kadahilanan may ilang reklamo tayong natatanggap ukol sa hindi maayos na pagpapatupad nito,” Lacuna said.
