SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Following reports of thieves victimizing tourists at the Mapanuepe Lake in nearby San Marcelino town, the local government vowed to deploy policemen to help secure the area.

According to Maj. Marvin Domacena, chief of the municipal police station, some tourists recently lost a camera and a wristwatch to thieves while visiting the popular freshwater lake in Barangay Buhawen last week.

Domacena said the local police, barangay officials, and the management of Mapanuepe Lake have been closely coordinating with each other to address the incident.

On Tuesday, Mayor Elmer Soria said the local government was alarmed by incidents of theft and ordered an investigation of the matter.

In the meantime, Soria asked tourists to stay vigilant and secure their belongings while visiting the tourist spot.
