MMDA: E-bikes, trikes banned on key NCR roads by April 15

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday reminded the public of the ban on e-bikes, e-trikes, and other similar vehicles on major roads in Metro Manila starting Monday, April 15.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said steep fines will be imposed on violators.

“Sa ating mga kababayan na gumagamit ng e-bikes, e-trikes, at mga kuligligs, tricycles, bawal na po kayo sa mga pangunahing lansangan dito sa Metro Manila by April 15, magstart na po tayo manghuli, hindi na po natin ‘yan i-eextend.” Artes said in a press conference.

(To users of e-bikes, e-trikes, improvised vehicles, and tricycles, you are prohibited on the main roads here in Metro Manila by April 15; we will start apprehending violators.)

A P2,500 fine will be charged for those who violate the rule, but for those with no licenses or no vehicle registration documents, their vehicles will be impounded.

“Ang penalty po ay P2,500, pero kung kayo po ay walang lisensiya or walang rehistro ‘yong e-bikes or e-trikes ‘yan po ay ma-susubject sa pag-impound dahil wala po kaming pagchacharge-an ng penalty ‘pag ganoon po ang sitwasyon,” he added.

(The penalty is P2,500, but if you don’t have a license or registration, your e-bikes or e-trikes will be impounded.)

In the MMDA’s memorandum circular no. 4, e-bikes, e-trikes, tricycles, and “kuligligs” will be prohibited on the following roads:

  • Claro M. Recto Avenue, Manila
  • President Quirino Avenue, Manila
  • Araneta Avenue, QC
  • Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue 
  • Katipunan/C.P. Garcia, QC
  • Southeast Metro Manila Expressway
  • Roxas Boulevard
  • Taft Avenue
  • Osmeña Highway 
  • Shaw Boulevard
  • Ortigas Avenue
  • Magsaysay Boulevard/Aurora Boulevard
  • Quezon Avenue/Commonwealth Avenue
  • A.Bonifacio Avenue
  • Rizal Avenue
  • Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway
  • Elliptical Road
  • Mindanao Avenue
  • Marcos Highway
  • Boni Avenue
  • España Boulevard
  • Other roads and thoroughfares may be determined by the MMDA.
