MANILA, Philippines — A fire broke out at Area C Parola Compound Binondo, Manila, on Friday morning, the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) said.

The blaze started at 11:33 a.m. in Barangay 275, Zone 25, Gate 52, San Nicolas district and quickly spread to reach the first alarm by 11:41 a.m. and the second alarm at 11:49 a.m., the DRRMO said on Facebook.

Two minutes later, authorities said the flames escalated to a third alarm.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said in its initial report that the blaze was put under control at 12:55 p.m.

By 1:13 p.m., the BFP said the fire was finally extinguished.

Two firemen sustained second degree burns. Three civilians were also injured.

According to the Manila Public Information Office, Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan is currently monitoring the situation of the fire victims.

It added that the Manila Department of Social Welfare and Development (MDSW) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) are preparing the P. Guevara Elementary School in San Fernando Street, Binondo, to serve as a temporary evacuation center for the affected families.

“MDSW and MDRRMO are on the ground currently setting up the modular tents and will provide hot meals. Verification of the final number of affected families and individuals is now ongoing,” it said in a message sent to reporters.
