LUCENA CITY — A birthday celebration turned tragic on Tuesday, April 9, after a 63-year-old grandfather drowned in Naic town in Cavite province.

The Region 4A police said in a report Wednesday, April 11, that Marticio Valdez, a resident of the locality, and his family went to a resort in Barangay Sahud Ulan to celebrate the birthday of his grandchild.

After a drinking spree, the victim went for a swim but did not return.

He was later found unconscious and lying on the shoreline.

He died while being taken to a hospital. His death was reported to the police station at around 7:30 p.m.

The remains of the victim will be subjected to a post-mortem examination and autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

For now, police recorded the incident as a case of “alleged drowning.”
