Teodoro asks for prayers for workers on duty on Eid’l Fitr
MANILA, Philippines — Military agencies called on everyone on Wednesday to “exchange forgiveness” and “share blessings” with those in need to mark the observance of Eid al-Fitr.
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. also asked the devout to extend prayers to workers on duty today (April 10), a regular holiday.
“As we enjoy this precious time we spend with those who are dear to us, may we also exchange forgiveness and understanding beyond the gifts that we give our loved ones and friends,” Teodoro said in a statement.
“Let us also offer a prayer for our brothers and sisters who are celebrating Eid on duty, that they may be kept safe, together with their families at home,” he noted.
Teodoro believes this is the time to practice Zakat (charity), one of Islam’s five pillars of religious obligations.

Presidential Peace Adviser and former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Carlito Galvez Jr. also made a similar call about Zakat.
“May this be an opportunity for our Muslim brothers and sisters to spend time with loved ones and continue to share their blessings and help those in need,” Galvez said in another statement.
“May the lessons learned during this period continue to guide, inspire and strengthen you throughout the year,” he added.
Eid al-Fitr is an Islamic holiday marking the end of Ramadan when the faithful fast daily from dawn to sunset.
Ramadan is also when an increase in devotion, charity and good deeds are expected.
The Palace declared Eid’l Fitr, which fell on April 10 this year.
