OLONGAPO CITY — The heat index in this city was forecast to reach 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which was slightly higher than the last two days.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the maximum heat index that would be experienced in the country was 44 °C, which is in the dangerous category.

Heat index is the degree of discomfort felt by an average person due to the combined effects of temperature and air humidity.

The local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office continues to remind residents here to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, as this might lead to heat cramps and exhaustion.

“Continuing activity could lead to heat stroke,” it added.

In the last two days, the heat index recorded in this city lingered at 38 °C and peaked at 41 °C in the past few weeks, forcing some schools to limit their in-person classes. INQ
