Who’s the real “Hari ng Tondo?”

Two congressmen from Tondo, Manila, on Sunday expressed their support for Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, saying “only a true-blue Manileño” can lead the city, an apparent swipe at former President Joseph Estrada who was born in the area but has spent much of his life in San Juan City.

Representative Benjamin “Atong” Asilo expressed “1,001 percent” support for Lim for the coming polls and thanked him for three public elementary schools being built in the Baseco compound. “In all these projects, Tondo was never left out,” he said.

Rep. Carlo Lopez, meanwhile, hailed Lim for being a “performer” instead of a traditional politician.—Jaymee T. Gamil
