Murder suspect slain in alleged clash with Calamba cops

LUCENA CITY — A murder suspect was killed in an alleged shootout with policemen in Calamba City on Thursday, April 4.

The Region 4A police said alias “Benjo” was slain at 8:25 p.m. after he engaged a team of policemen in Barangay Parian.

A report said law enforcers cornered the suspect but instead of surrendering, he shot the policemen but missed his target.

The lawmen returned fire and hit Benjo. He was rushed to the nearest hospital but died on the way.

Earlier at 2:59 a.m., Benjo, armed with a handgun, repeatedly shot and killed a man who was then driving his tricycle in Barangay San Jose, also in Calamba.

The suspect fled after the shooting and left his victim dead on the spot.

At around 7 p.m., an informant tipped off the police that Benjo was sighted in Parian, which resulted in his death in the alleged encounter.

The police are investigating the possible motive for Benjo’s killing of the victim. INQ
