SORSOGON CITY — A 66-year-old woman was found dead Monday on the shoreline of Matnog town in Sorsogon province.

Gloria Endonela, a guest residing in Barangay Casili of Gubat town, suffered a cardiac arrest while on the beach in Barangay Calintaan, said Matnog police chief Jonathan Hapa in a phone interview on Monday afternoon.

Endonela’s body was recovered around 9 a.m. near the Arcadia Crystal resort of the town. She was immediately taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Hapa reminded tourists and visitors to take extra precautions and keep a vigilant eye while on the beach to prevent similar incidents from happening.

“Let us not only keep our eyes on children, we should also look after the elderly, especially those with weak bodies who need most of our assistance. We need to watch them, especially now that we are in a hot season,” Hapa said.

He added that the tourist police unit and the Philippine Coast Guard were already deployed to monitor the town’s resorts constantly to “ensure public safety and security.”
