LEGAZPI CITY, Albay — Former Sorsogon City Mayor Leovic Dioneda died of a heart attack on Tuesday night at the Sorsogon Medical Mission Group Hospital (SMMGH) in Sorsogon City. He was 63.

Dioneda, a candidate for city mayor under the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), was taken to the SMMGH on Monday after family members found him unconscious, said Benny Recibido, Philippine Information Agency provincial manager in Sorsogon.

Dioneda was admitted to the SMMGH’s intensive care unit where doctors were able to stabilize his condition. He, however, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Dioneda is survived by his wife Joy and children Eric, who is running for governor; Jun-Jun; Bem; and Honey.

Dioneda served as Sorsogon City mayor for two terms from 2007 to 2013.

He was once a Philippine Army captain and a member of the Reform the Armed Forces Movement (RAM). He led the RAM blocking force at the Legazpi City airport during the height of the 1986 EDSA Revolution. SFM
