MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Benjamin Acorda officially ended his term on Monday, three months after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his service.

Acorda’s PNP service should have ended on December 3, 2023, when he reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 for uniformed personnel of the government.

Marcos conferred retirement honors on the outgoing PNP top boss during the change-of-command ceremony at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

“This ceremony is not meant as a farewell to General Acorda, but a chance to acknowledge and congratulate him for his efforts, his patriotism, his unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of our people,” Marcos said in his speech during the retirement ceremony.

“I believe, the best send-off gift that we can give General Acorda is neither the usual memorabilia nor the typical testimonials. The best parting token that we can offer him is the pledge to exceed what he has done during his watch and to continue the good work that he has begun,” added Marcos.

On March 31, the Palace announced that  Lieutenant General Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta was appointed PNP officer-in-charge.

However, Marcos inducted Major General Rommel Francisco Marbil the next day as the new PNP chief, replacing Acorda.

Before being appointed the PNP’s new top boss, Marbil was the officer-in-charge of the institution’s Directorate for Comptrollership.

Marbil, who belongs to the Philippine Military Academy Sambisig Class of 1991, likewise served as police director of Eastern Visayas.
