Po to face Suquite in Muay main card

Mixed martial arts fighter Gino “The Projectile” Po of the Projectile’s Pit Muay Thai Club in Talamban will face Junrey Suquite of the Durex Dragons Lapu-Lapu in the main event of the Muay Thai Challenge 2012 on May 20 at the J Center Mall in Mandaue City.

Po and Suquite will battle in the 140lb division.

Po is coming from an impressive victory last February in the Fight Ground III championships against Ronny Calunsag.

“Even though this is just an exhibition fight,  I will do my best to win because I know that Suquite  is tough and skillful inside the ring,” said Po during yesterday’s official launching of the event at the J Center Mall activity area. “I’ve been preparing for this fight for a while so I am not afraid to fight him.”

Also present in the launching was Michael Arquillano, director of the Muay Thai Association of the Philippines-Cebu chapter.

“We want to promote the art of Muay Thai to the Cebuanos because we also wanted them to engage in this sport,” said Arquillano.

Arquillano is planning to hold a  tournament on a monthly basis. This is a prepare for the upcoming Muay Thai Asian Games set to happen later this year.

Aside from Po and Suquite’s fight, Neil Bacatan will also face Kerk Florida of the ATC Kick Boxing club in the 122lbs division.

Leo Rodrigo of Bullet Muay Thai will go up against John Edu Torbiso of the Durex Dragons in the junior featherweight division. Moses Nadalo also from Bullet Muay Thai will clash Edcel Julom of ATC Kick Boxing in the 140lbs division.

There will also be several other bouts featured during the event, which will be free to the public. Fights start at 6 p.m.
