14 rescued after their motorboat capsized in the waters off Polillo Island

LUCENA CITY – At least 14 passengers of a motorized boat were rescued on Black Saturday, March 30, after their vessel capsized in the Pacific Ocean near the island town of Burdeos in Quezon.

The Quezon police said Sunday, March 31, in a report that the rescued persons sailed from Binumbunan Island and were about to dock in a port in Barangay (village) San Rafael when strong waves battered the boat, causing it to overturn at around 6:30 p.m.

The passengers were saved by policemen and rescuers from the local government and taken to the port.

They did not sustain injuries.

Burdeos and two other towns, Polillo and Panukulan, are located in Polillo island facing the Pacific Ocean.
