4 drown in Calabarzon on Good Friday

LUCENA CITY – At least four persons drowned in separate incidents on Good Friday in Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces, the Region 4A police said in a report Saturday (March 30).

One Francis Pasamba, who was allegedly drunk, jumped from the pier into the 10-meter deep water in Barangay (village) Caridad Ibaba in Atimonan, Quezon around 3 p.m.

His body surfaced more than two hours later.

In Laguna province, Rodemar Magtubo, after a drinking spree along the banks of a river in Barangay Alipit in Sta. Cruz town around 5 p.m., went to the river for a swim.

A few minutes later, his body was seen floating in another part of the river.

In Rodriguez, Rizal, picnicker Simon Peter Escober, while swimming strayed into the deeper part of Wawa river in Barangay San Rafael around 2:30 p.m.

Rescuers recovered him and he was taken to a local hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Another picnicker, Ruffa Mae Quinto, (not the actress) was with her relatives in an outing in Barangay Bilogo in Taysan, Batangas.

At around 1:30 p.m. Quinto was spotted floating in the swimming pool, unconscious and with her head bowed down.

She was taken to the nearest hospital but died on the way.
