Drunk elderly dies in Cavite fire

LUCENA CIY — A 69-year-old man, who was allegedly drunk, died on Friday, March 15, when a fire of still unknown origin gutted his house in General Mariano Alvarez (GMA) town in Cavite province.

The GMA police, in a report Saturday, March 16, said the victim was trapped inside his house in Barangay (village) Barangay Ramon Cruz when it caught fire at 12:45 p.m. The report did not identify the victim.

Firemen responded and declared the blaze under control one hour later.

The report stated that the victim was “under the influence of liquor and believed to be sleeping” during the incident.

The body of the victim was recovered by firemen inside the burned house during the clearing operation. It would be subjected to an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

The report did not provide information on the whereabouts of the victim’s family when the fire broke out.

No other casualties and houses were affected by the fire, the police reported.

An investigation was still ongoing to determine what caused the fire.
