Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon said on Saturday that the city government will not ban electric tricycles or e-trikes on main city roads but will issue regulations to ensure their safety and orderliness.

Biazon made the clarification on his official social media account after the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced a new policy that prohibits e-bikes and e-trikes, along with other slow-moving vehicles, from using national circumferential and radial roads in the capital region.

The MMDA regulation, which will take effect in April, aims to prevent road accidents and traffic congestion caused by these vehicles, which the agency said were involved in 554 crashes in 2023.

Biazon said that while the city will comply with the MMDA policy, it will not apply to other major thoroughfares in Muntinlupa, such as the South Luzon Expressway East and West Service Roads, the Alabang-Zapote Road, and the National Road. —RUSSEL LORETO
