DSWD extending emergency aid to Davao region folk

 

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will distribute cash assistance to families affected by floods die to the shear line and trough of a low pressure area in the Davao region last January.

DSWD Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez said the emergency cash transfer (ECT) payout will be facilitated by its Field Office-11 (Davao Region) during the first quarter of the year.

The DSWD said that around 145,695 disaster-affected families are set to benefit from the program.

“Each beneficiary will receive Php9,960, equivalent to approximately 75 percent of their current regional minimum wage rate for 30 days. This cash aid will greatly help our affected kababayans to recover from the disasters that affected their lives and livelihood,” Lopez said in a statement.

The DSWD has allotted P1.4 billion for the ECT program for the provinces of Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental, Lopez added.

He further said that the agency has already conducted a payout in Tarragona, Davao Oriental on March 4.

Meanwhile, 70,000 beneficiaries from the municipalities of Asuncion, Braulio E. Dujali, Carmen, Kapalong, New Corella, Panabo City, Santo Tomas, and Tagum City in Davao del Norte have yet to receive their ECT assistance.

There are also 75,695 beneficiaries from the towns of Baganga, Banaybanay, Boston, Caraga, Gov. Generoso, Lupon, Manay, Mati City, San Isidro, and Tarragona in Davao Oriental who are set to receive their cash aid, the DSWD added.
