MANILA, Philippines — Elections watchdog Parish Pastoral Council on Responsible Voting (PPCRV) mourned the passing of industrialist and National Citizens Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) co-founder Jose “Joecon” Concepcion Jr. on Wednesday.
Both PPCRV and Namfrel have served as citizens’ arms in elections nationwide.
“His early championship of guarding the vote and monitoring its accuracy is a heritage he leaves behind,” PPCRV said in a post on social media.
“We salute his pioneering leadership of Namfrel, his friendship extended to other like-minded advocates. We pray for the eternal repose of his soul,” the group added.
Prior to co-founding Namfrel, Concepcion served as Trade and Industry sexretary during the administration of then-president Corazon Aquino.
Joecon passed away on Wednesday, March 6, at the age of 92. His family announced his passing in a statement but did not provide details.
“We hope they find solace in knowing that his was a life well lived, well-loved,” PPCRV added.
The wake will be at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City.
A Requiem Mass will also be offered on Monday, March 11, at 1:15 p.m. at the Santuario de San Antonio Parish Church, Forbes Park, Makati City.
