LUCENA CITY — A fisherman was rescued after his boat submerged in waters off Calatrava town in Romblon province on Monday.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-District Southern Tagalog said in a report on Tuesday that Fulbert Fabul, a crew member of passenger sea vessel “Corcuera Liner 8,” spotted a submerged fishing boat with one person clinging to it in the vicinity of Barangay (village) Linao around 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 26.
Fabul jumped off the boat and rescued the fisherman identified as Segundo Naron, a resident of Romblon town.

A PCG personnel, Petty Officer Second Class Marvin Pagdunsulan, one of the boat passengers, helped Fabul in rescuing the fisherman.
According to the fisherman, his boat was battered by strong waves that caused it to submerge.

Naron is in good condition, authorities said. His fishing boat was towed to Calatrava.
The PCG advised fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea during unpredictable weather conditions to prevent untoward incidents that could endanger their lives.
