LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Philippines — Two fishermen were rescued on Sunday, Feb. 25, after their boat became submerged due to strong waves in Lamon Bay in Atimonan, Quezon, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

In a report, the PCG-District Southern Tagalog said that a small fishing boat was sighted half-submerged some 100 meters away from the shoreline of the bay park on Sunday afternoon.

PCG personnel, assisted by local authorities, rushed to the site and rescued the two fishermen, Simon and Eugene, both residents of Barangay Tagbakin.

Using ropes and life rings, the rescuers towed the boat to safety on the shoreline. The two fishermen were found in good condition.

According to the fishermen, the left outrigger of their boat was damaged by the strong waves, causing the sea vessel to submerge partially.

The PCG advised fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea during unpredictable weather conditions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
