Man climbs tree; causes traffic

A MAN who climbed a tree and stayed there for seven hours caused a two-hour traffic in  Natalio Bacalso Avenue, Cebu City, yesterday.

Rufino Ancon of Dumajug town, southwestern Cebu, would not tell police why he climbed the narra tree located  a few meters from the Cebu Institute  University.

Police initial investigation revealed that the farmer climbed the 300-foot-high  tree around 3 a.m.

Fire Officer 2 Ashly Lee said the negotiation started at 7 a.m. but Ancon refused to talk.

Lee said they had a hard time negotiating with Anton when he started moving from branch to branch, which caused the  crowd to shout and cheer for him.

Lee said Anton jumped at 9 a.m. but rescuers grabbed him toward the carry taker where he landed on the center.

Anton was brought to a hospital to check on his mental state.

“He only keeps on saying he has animals in Dumajug,” said Lee./correspondent chito aragon
