LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Philippines — Three people died in a fire that hit two houses in Taytay town in Rizal province over the weekend, police said Monday.

In a report, the Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO 4A)  said the blaze that started at 9:02 p.m. on Sunday gutted a house owned by Gloria de Silva in Barangay Dolores.

De Silva and two others — Celerina and Elvira Valera — were trapped inside the burning house and died, according to investigators. Their charred bodies were discovered by firefighters during the clearing operation.

The report did not provide details of the relationship among the victims, except that they were all living together in the burned house.

According to the Taytay Public Information Office (PIO), the fire also reached the adjacent house and was eventually destroyed.

Police said there were no reported injuries during the fire, which was extinguished 45 minutes later.

Firemen were still investigating to determine the cause of the blaze
