LUCENA CITY — A motorcycle rider died on Saturday, Feb. 24, after his vehicle crashed into a parked dump truck in Tuy town in Batangas province.

Batangas police said in a report Sunday, Feb. 25, that the motorcyclist identified as Arnel Bayaborda, 57, was negotiating the national highway in Barangay (village) Sabang at 7:20 p.m., when he bumped the rear part of a parked 12-wheeler truck on the outer lane of the road.

The rider suffered grave injuries and died while being taken to Don Manuel Lopez Memorial District Hospital in neighboring Balayan town.

The report did not specify if the parked truck, driven by Randy Cruz, 47, had an early warning device to alarm approaching vehicles. It also did not state whether the riders were wearing crash helmets, which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

The truck driver was taken into custody while further investigation is ongoing.
