1 dead, 1 hurt in motorcycle-truck collision in Batangas

Teacher dies in motorcycle-van collision in Batangas

LUCENA CITY — A motorcyclist died and another one was injured early Wednesday, Feb. 14, after their vehicle collided with a truck tractor head in Bauan town in Batangas province.

Batangas police said in a report that the motorcycle driver identified as Mark Anthony Banta, 25, and his back-rider Arlene Gimoto, 23, were negotiating Mabini-Bauan Road in Barangay San Miguel at 12:05 a.m., when they bumped the rear part of a truck running ahead of them and driven by Alvin Dave, 37.

Both riders suffered grave injuries and were brought by rescuers to Bauan General Hospital but Banta died along the way.

Gimoto suffered a fracture on her right leg and is still confined at the said hospital.

The police said they found no driver’s license from Banta.

The report did not state whether the riders were wearing crash helmets, which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

The police said that both drivers were under the influence of liquor when the incident happened.

Dave was taken into custody while further investigation is ongoing.
