LUCENA CITY — An octogenarian was burned to death on Tuesday, Feb. 13, while trying to put off a fire in his backyard in San Luis town in Batangas province.
The Region 4A police said in a report Wednesday that Sofronio Marasigan, 85, was burning garbage at the back of his house in Barangay Taliba at 2:10 p.m. when the fire spread to the adjacent bamboo grove.
The old man tried to stop the fire but accidentally lost his balance and fell.
Unable to move, the fire caught the victim and burned him to death, police said
Local firemen put off the blaze at 03:50 p.m.
The police are conducting further investigation.
