Iwahig Prison escapee rearrested after 25 years

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Tuesday that a person deprived of liberty (PDL) was re-arrested 25 years after escaping from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF).

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Tuesday that a person deprived of liberty (PDL) was rearrested 25 years after escaping from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF).

According to the BuCor, the escapee identified as Pedrino G. Núñez was nabbed in Sablayan, Oriental Mindoro on Friday.

BuCor added that Nuñez was residing in the area where he was arrested.

Nuñez was admitted to the IPPF for murder in October 1997 and later escaped in April 1999, the agency likewise added.

“Tulad ng sinabi ko noon na kapag kayo ay tumakas hahanapin namin kayo kahit saan kayo magtago at ibabalik namin kayo sa corrections facility at ito ang patunay,” BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr said.

(Like what I told you before, if you escape, we will find you wherever you may hide and return you to the corrections facility. This is the proof.)

“You cannot escape the long arm of the law,” Catapang added.
