MORE than 100 residents in barangay Panadtaran, San Fernando town in southern Cebu received eyeglasses during the medical mission conducted by Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) recently at the barangay gymnasium.
Another 1,114 residents availed of free medical services, including dental cases and blood sugar testing.
“It’s remarkable to note the number of people we attended to. But what is important was that we were able to serve the community,” said company physician Dr. Ildebrando Estella, who led the expanded mission also backed by Solid Earth Development Corp.
Similar to the previous medical mission that benefited 989 patients in November 2009, the whole-day event noted common illnesses like colds, cough, asthma, hypertension, arthritis and ulcer. EyeTune Optical gave out a pair of eyeglasses each to 110 patients.
Japanese executives oversaw the conduct of the mission orchestrated by Emily Ortega, Solid Earth HR senior manager.
Barangay chief Ricardo Reluya thanked the Taiheiyo Group for the mission, saying his constituents could hardly get medical attention due to poverty.
