MANILA, Philippines — The price of round scad (galunggong) and other pelagic fish could go down by 30 percent starting this February because of the start of the open fishing season, Department of Agriculture (DA) spokesperson Arnel de Mesa said on Monday.

“Because the open season has begun this February-March, we are expecting that prices will go down by as much as 30 percent for scad other pelagic fish,” de Mesa said in Filipino during the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing.

According to the DA’s price watch list, the price of local round scad ranges from P200 to P330 per kilo as of Friday.

Meanwhile, imported round scad costs P180 to P260.
