2 NPA members surrender in Rizal

MANILA, Philippines — Two alleged communist rebels have surrendered to authorities, the Rizal Provincial Police Office (PPO) said Saturday.

According to police, the rebels voluntarily turned themselves in as Rizal Provincial Mobile Force Company (Lead Unit), Tanay Municipal Police Station, Rizal PPO, and other local authorities conducted a joint operation in the province on Friday, February 2.

The surrenders were from Nakar town in Quezon province, police said.

Based on Rizal PPO’s report, the surrenderers yielded a caliber .38 revolver without a serial number; two pcs of Cal .38 live ammunition; an improvised shotgun without a serial number; two pcs of 12 gauges shotgun live ammunition; a roll of detonation cord more or less three (3) feet in length; blasting cap; and two black sweatshirts with markings “ Bagong Hukbong Bayan” with the logo of the NPA, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

The report merely named and described the two communist rebels as “Ka Bagtikan,” 50, and native of Kalibo, Aklan; and “Ka Anghel/Dalio,” 52, and a member of the Dumagat ethnic group.

Police said Ka Bagtikan resides at Sitio Lumutan, Nakar, Quezon and works at a swidden farm while Ka Anghel/Dalio is a farmer.
