MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday warned against the proliferation of fake online ads that it was giving away up to P50,000 in cash assistance, leading to long lines at its offices.
“There are a lot of fake accounts spreading false information online that we are handing out education assistance to our citizens in the amount of P10,000 and up to P50,000,” Social Welfare Undersecretary Edu Punay said in a television interview.
He urged the public to get their information about existing cash aid programs only from official DSWD social media accounts.
“The official account of the DSWD is ‘Department of Social Welfare and Development’ and that is the only official Facebook account, while for Twitter (now X), it’s @dswdserves,” he said.
