MANILA, Philippines — A fire hit a residential unit in front of a shopping center in Recto, Manila, on Wednesday.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire was reported at 1:14 pm. It went to second alarm by 3:15 p.m., third alarm by 3:26 p.m., and fourth alarm by 3:40 p.m.

It reached the fifth alarm at 3:46 p.m. and is still currently on the fifth alarm.
The BFP said more than 30 fire trucks and one ambulance were sent for rescue and firefighting operations.
Around 150 houses and 300 families or some 600 individuals were affected in the fire, the BFP estimated.

One person was also injured, the BFP said.
The BFP declared fire out by 7:56 pm.
As of posting time, authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
The Light Rail Transit-2 has also suspended operations in the Recto station and said that trips will be from the Legarda Station to Antipolo, and vice-versa.
