Fire hits residential block in Pandacan, 1 hurt – BFP
MANILA, Philippines — A man was injured following a fire that broke out in a residential area on West Zamora Street in Pandacan on Thursday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported.
The BFP said that a 19-year-old male suffered from a laceration on his head and that he was transported to Ospital ng Maynila for medical treatment.
No other injuries or fatalities were reported due to the fire.
According to the BFP, the houses in the area were built with light materials.
Article continues after this advertisementIt also said that the first alarm on the blaze was raised at 5:47 a.m. as firefighters were deployed to the area.
Article continues after this advertisementThe fire eventually reached the fourth alarm at 6:57 a.m.
A video taken by resident Honeylou Bag-ao from her house rooftop on West Zamora Street showed firefighters trying to extinguish the blaze that also affected Barangays 849, 850, and 852.
Bag-ao, who witnessed the blaze, said that fire victims were unable to save their belongings except for a few appliances and the clothes on their backs.
Another video taken by resident Renato Montera from across the affected area showed a thick smoke as the fire engulfed several houses.
Some residents tried to help extinguish the fire by gathering water from a nearby manhole.
The BFP said the blaze was declared under control by 8:01 a.m. and officially extinguished at 8:26 a.m.

The total number of affected residents is still being determined by city social workers, the BFP added.
Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire as of posting time.
